pool's edge
When I find my mind straying
To the devils again,
I sit myself down on the crooked
stool
I tell myself, slow and steady-
It is not you, you fool
The stranger it is, who speaks such lies
Poisoned by what they think
should be true-
But they are not true. Such lies!
Spoon fed, bottle bred, needles sent.
You see yourself at the pool’s edge,
Reflection of you- do not recognize.
gentle, careful features
you want to see you?
you already do.
You want to be you,
But if you do,
You must jump and drown
and let go of all you think,
The stranger sneers and claws and
you hear
the "you must and you have to
you should."
You are not.
You are not you if you continue
indulging the stranger within you
pulling you away from you.
the you that laments
"i want and i love and i am."
You see your happiness, in the
reflection. With a splash you
dash
from the water's edge.
You are you.
Don't deny it.
just don't, or in the end, it'll kill you
my friend.
if you walk the pool's edge for
the rest of your eternity
You forget the you
You shy away,
Do you think you can ever really
forgive yourself
in your dying breath-
If you walk the stranger's way?
