getting there
so what's it like?
it must be better,
getting there rather than being stuck
stuck as usual,
the same feeling of your feet in the mud
not really, it's the in-betweens
the getting-theres,
the climbing up and out
the highlights and fall-backs
that feel, well-
what does it feel?
pulling bandages off your body,
you don't want them there anymore-
but they stick so tight,
they tear and pull and fight
shedding skin, this isn't you
not anymore,
you lie there feeling raw
the very air stings but you try
to be better
it's removing the nails from
the soles of your feet,
they've done their damage-
for far too long now-
time to let go and let be.
nursing your wounds in bed
waiting for weeks and weeks
it's bending bones back into shapes
they refuse to go back to
the way they were made
and sometimes they fight,
they fight back and ache and ache
getting there, getting there
it's worth it because you're getting there.
and soon it'll be better.
